Driven by his passion for the world of piracy, our captain, Mathieu (Libertalia / ex-Les Compagnons du Gras Jambon), is working on this project for 8 years. He has composed lots of musical parts in order to perform them on stage, one day.

He first crossed the way of two filibusters in Tarn. He decided to welcome them in board of his ship, La Mouette Rieuse. Thus Boris (bass guitar, ex-Natural Mortica) and Colin (keyboard, ex-Natural Mortica) joined the crew in the end of the year 2013.

It’s only in April 2014 that two landlubbers, having their ears wandering in the good place at the good time, managed to crawl into the shim ship : they were a drummer and a guitarist. The captain’s choice was difficult at this point : the shark plank or integration in the crew. After having feasted with them and realising they could properly substain on rum, he agreeded Corentin (guitar) and Richard (drums, Libertalia / ex-Brick A Drac) on board. So Barbar’O’ Rhum crew was complete.
The band has played its first shows during the second part of the year 2014, but the adventure has really begun in January 2015.

During this year, Barbar’O’Rhum has cast anchor 20 times, mainly in South-West France. They have in particular boarded the Bikini (a great scene in Toulouse) in June and they have played for the Festival Pause Guitare (Bob Dylan as a headliner) in July. They have even gone until Bremen in Germany for the Festival Maritim (with Celkilt) in August.
In June 2015, Boris has left the band and Jérémy replaced him on bass guitar.

This year full of shows and meetings has made possible the recording of their first album in January 2016. It’s called « Toutes les Routes Mènent au Rhum », it’s composed of 11 songs for one hour of Rock ‘n’ Rhum music and it was released on the 1st July.
Concerning the shows, they have exported their music in new areas, dropping the anchor in Belgium and in Picardy (to the Mast’O Poine Festival in Quevaucamps, the Cornwall in Tournai and the Charleston in Amiens), in Brittany (to the Festival Les Nuits Salines in Batz-sur-Mer, with Soldat Louis and Celkilt) and in Burgundy (to the Festivallon for six concerts in six days around Avallon). But they have played also in South-West of France to the Festival A Fleur de Peau (Carmaux, with Mask Ha Gazh and the Shoepolishers) and to the Fest Y Musik (Saint-Antoine, with La P’tite Fumée and Zompa Family).

2017 was the most successful year of the band ! With more than 30 concerts, more than 18,000 km traveled and 4 countries crossed, Barbar’O’Rhum has exported its music to new regions and countries. They have returned in Germany for the Autumn Moon Festival (with Faun, on the same stage than Irdorath and Waldkauz) and they have discovered Italy at the Celtic Days Festival in Ome (with Winterage). They have also played in the Festival Interceltique de Lorient which was a great experience (one concert at the Pam Pam Pub and one concert at L’Aristide). And they have shared stages with bands like Tagada Jones (Les Couchetards in Saint-Joachim), Les Humeurs Cérébrales (Les Rock’O’Tonales in Russey), Mask Ha Gazh (Festival Celtique de Cenon-sur-Vienne) or Digresk (La Grande Tablée Bretonne in Nantes) … Barbar’O’Rhum has also taken its first steps in the “Geek” conventions with the participation of the band at the Geek Touch (Lyon) and at the Geek Faëries (Selles -sur-Cher).

There is also this year the arrival of the first pirate woman aboard La Mouette Rieuse, Sonia (ex-Tan Elleil) at the hurdy-gurdy.

Barbar’O’Rhum continues its travel in 2018 with more than 25 concerts in France. The band has played at the Echos & Merveilles festival in Bruguières (with Faun and Luc Arbogast) and at the Festival Celtique Rock in Nogent-sur-Oise (sharing the stage with the Celtica Pipes -Rock and the Blood of the Green). They have also gone in Épinal for the festival Les Imaginales, in La Forêt-de-Tessé for the festival Cap sur l’Été and in Saint-Gervais d’Auvergne for the Fustival Celtique.

Barbar’O’Rhum has started the recording of the second album and a seventh pirate came on board, Benjamin on the guitar.

Hide your pieces of eight and your bottles of rum, Barbar’O’Rhum has the wind astern !
